The Story Behind the Story...
In 2008 an idea was created. Ahead of its time. Before I owned a computer. Being an artist to me then was having ink or pencil on my cuffs. Paint under my nails. Finger tips constantly covered in glue or glitter. Who knew that 16 years later my idea would be elevated beyond my expectations and the possibilities endless.
A normal day with my Mum looking after my Niece turned into one of the most enriching sweetest days I can ever hope to cherish. It was here I realised my Niece would go onto be the creative being that she is today. Her eyes captured the detail in that normal day and her humour and intelligence shone through. I won't give the story away, but you've probably guessed by now it's to do with symmetry.
Back in 2008 a scrap book of this memoir was formed. It was something that I could build overtime and on the cheap (time's where hard). Finally all of the smallest bits of cards, paper and materials I hoarded had found its purpose.
I realised that I was creating a story but with images, I was no writer. I'm still not. I managed to get my hands on a second hand laptop and scanner. Thank goodness for the Leigh-on-Sea Library. I could go in and use 30 minutes free internet daily. I would upload my pages onto 'Paint' yes that's right, Microsoft Paint, quickly add a text box in to insert my story, saving my manuscript, page by page.
Fast forward 2026 a new world has formed. I have given myself the time and space to elevate my original story. Found meaning in the art of detail and having about four final versions saved (Designers get my meaning here). My freelance business and experience in the Retail sector (and quite honestly working for some amazing people) has given me the tools to self publish and print Milly 2.0.
My online resources that I will create and share here will remain free and I'll add and update as often as I can.
If you've made it this far reading my story then come back in 2027 to see Milly gets to explore another educational adventure!
